Rethink SEL – Make Sure It Meets All Kids’ Needs
Tuesday, February 8th
9:00 – 9:25am | Session 5H – M303-304
No two students come to school with the same needs, challenges, and skillsets. The pandemic and its effects have not been equitable either. When it comes to supporting students with SEL, personalized instruction is key to growth and developing skills needed to maintain mental health. SEL is also essential in academic success. Learn what the research says and hear about a personalized approach to SEL.
Taking a Closer Look: Using Program Evaluation to Support Social Emotional Learning
Tuesday, February 8th
9:25 – 9:50am | Session 5H – M303-304
Demand for SEL has skyrocketed, but not all programs are equal. Integrating an evaluation plan into the design of a social emotional learning (SEL) program is essential for creating the best possible experience and outcomes for students. A comprehensive and rigorous evaluation serves to inform program and implementation decisions, monitor progress towards short and long-term goals, and assess the effectiveness and impact of the program. This session will briefly describe findings from a preliminary investigation into the efficacy of a digital SEL program. Participants will learn how findings can be used to inform program implementation, ensure continuous improvement, and determine if the program is producing the intended outcomes.
Unlocking the Potential of Hybrid Learning for Urban Schools; Lessons from a hybrid school in an urban setting
Tuesday, February 8th
3:25 – 3:50pm | M301
Hybrid schools/programs offer real-time data from student learning along with the flexibility to offer the highest level of support that urban schools require to meet the needs of their students. In this session, participants will learn how urban schools can leverage the relationship building and face-to-face instruction/intervention that teachers and support staff bring along with the foundational and data rich pieces that a robust digital learning platform can offer to help solve the complex issues facing urban schools. Participants will examine the lessons learned from a designed hybrid school in Columbus Ohio to help find that ideal balance of digital and face-to-face learning to be used in their school, district, or program.
